Gender & Sexuality Equity Coalition (GSEC) - Program Director

TITLE: Student Program Director

PROGRAM: The Gender and Sexuality Equity Coalition

 

COMPENSATION:          $17.50  per hour

 

OBJECTIVES:
Under general supervision of the GSEC Faculty Advisor, the GSEC Program Director is responsible for supporting the Gender and Sexuality Equity Center programs, events, interns, and office setting. This responsibility includes the management of the day-to-day operations of the GSEC. This leadership position interacts with the campus community for the purpose of promoting gender and sexuality equity on the CSU, Chico campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Demonstrate commitment to the GSEC mission and support the learning and commitment of GSEC team members to the organization mission by applying feminist and queer theories to guide the work.
  • Learn to build and utilize leadership skills to support the GSEC goals and to support the GSEC team
  • Act as a voice and representative of the GSEC by attending networking events and promoting activist efforts across campus and with community partners. Work collaboratively and effectively with university administration, faculty, and staff to improve services to students.
  • Provide day to day oversight and support for an engaging and accessible office environment.
  • Oversee and coordinate intern recruitment and intern training each semester
  • Plan and facilitate weekly team meetings to share information and help guide GSEC strategy
  • Work with Faculty Advisor to coordinate the hiring and training of program staff/coordinators
  • In collaboration with Faculty Advisor, develop and present funding requests to potential funders
  • Ensures website, publicity and social media materials are developed and utilized for GSEC promotion and outreach.
  • Gain a basic understanding of university policies and procedures as related to GSEC actions and events
  • Learn the basics of the agency budget including event budgets, office supplies, merchandise, personnel costs, and other program costs
  • Maintain records of paperwork, letters, articles, donations, and other information pertaining to staff position and events/activities as relevant to use for future reference in Legacies
  • Assist with coordination of fundraising events and campaigns including Campus Giving Day and Revenue Sharing (if applicable)
  • Engage in regular advising and supervision with Faculty Advisor regarding learning and development needs, feminist leadership style, and overall program development

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in the GSEC office BSS 102, the Bell Memorial Union, and outside environments including on the campus and in the community; continuous contact with staff, campus community, and public.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an office environment that is very busy and with constant interruptions, frequent phone calls, and walk-in traffic. Continuous sitting; use of office equipment including computer terminals, telephones, copiers and scanners; frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs. of materials; reasonable accommodations will be made.

 

Ability to:

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, general public, co-workers, and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Work well under pressure: meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

 

Education Requirements:
Currently enrolled full time in California State University, Chico. Maintain enrollment in (6) six units as an undergraduate student or (4) four units as a graduate student.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrate significant understanding of feminist, LGBTQIA+, and social justice issues; prioritization of multicultural and intersectional analysis.  Ability to communicate effectively including public speaking and/or presentation experience; demonstrated interest in sexuality and gender diversity-related issues. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Experience with and ability to interact with a diverse population. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Supervisory and mentorship experience, feminist leadership skills; experience with advocacy; experience facilitating meetings and group activities; advanced understanding of computer programs Microsoft Excel, Publisher, and Illustrator. Students with prior involvement in a GSEC leadership position may be given priority.
