Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE) is the leading nonprofit research institute in the United States devoted to advancing Veterans health research. NCIRE is part of one of the world’s most dedicated and successful Veterans care communities, pioneering new treatments and understandings of military medicine and care.

Along with our partners at the San Francisco VA Health Care System and the University of California, San Francisco, we are working to discover and develop effective, safe, and practical treatments for military injuries and diseases affecting Veterans. Position Definition:

Under general supervision of the Director of Animal Care or Health Care Technicians, has responsibility for support for health care and/or environmental control activities and work directly related to the collection, receiving, housing, and handling, evaluation, breeding, nutrition, treatment, and disposition of a wide variety of animals. Supports the Director and other staff in such areas as husbandry, management, and disease recognition.

Essential Functions:

  • Routine husbandry for rodents
  • Assist with cage washing and other equipment
  • Maintain food and bedding, unloading storage and stacking
  • Routine maintenance of ventilated caging components (i.e., filters, etc.)
  • Assists Director and Health Care Technicians in ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Routine cleaning, sweeping, and mopping of facility.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years related experience.
  • High school diploma, GED or combination of education and experience.
  • A basic knowledge of para-veterinary procedures
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of personnel
  • Position requires ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs.

 

Working Conditions/Environment:

The work environment for this position is in a medical research laboratory.  It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, strong odors, temperature variations, etc.  The incumbent is in non-confined animal housing -type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.

 

 

 

The base salary range for this position is $19.66 - $24.16 per hour. The base salary actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including bonuses.
