Community Service Officer (CSO)

This position is designed to teach incumbents skills that will assist them in future law enforcement careers. A basic understanding of law enforcement functions is required for this position. No law enforcement experience is required. Related educational experience is preferred, but is not required. CSOs will be responsible for completing specified tasks independently or with moderate supervision.

These tasks include, but are not limited to, taking and writing basic criminal reports, securing exterior doors on campus, granting individual access into campus buildings, testing campus emergency equipment, directing traffic during events, updating law enforcement forms and resources, posting notices regarding the impending removal of abandoned property on campus, collecting abandoned property from campus, conducting area checks of campus and reporting suspicious behavior, maintaining law enforcement equipment, parking enforcement, providing presentations to the campus community, providing security during events, assisting patrol officers as needed and during emergency situations, and operating the Campus Connection safety shuttle.

 

“The person holding this position may be considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.”
