Child Support Assistant

Child Support Professionals are positioned for success and have promotional opportunities available within the Child Support career path.Child Support Assistants process child support cases and provide assistance in locating parents and conducting in-person interviews to elicit financial information. Child Support Assistants generate, complete, and process legal forms and correspondence, verify requests, answer questions, and complete a variety of technical tasks in support of obtaining and enforcing child support orders.
 

 

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the following options:

 

OPTION 1 EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in Public/Business Administration, Administration of Justice, Social/Behavioral Science, English, Math, Humanities, or a closely related field. Transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a completed Associate's degree (or higher) in one of the qualifying fields of study.

 


NOTE: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

 


OPTION 2 EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent office clerical experience working in a county agency overseen by a State Child Support Services Department.

 


OPTION 3 EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of full-time equivalent office clerical experience which involved interviewing customers to obtain pertinent financial, legal, or personal history information. This experience must be clearly described in the work experience section of your application. (Conducting job interviews is not considered qualifying experience.)

 


OPTION 4 CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of the Entry Level Workplace Certification issued by San Bernardino County. This certification must be attached to your application.

 

 

 Selection Process:

Examination Procedure: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online assessment. The online assessment will consist of an evaluation of skills and knowledge in the following areas:

 


 

  • Math Skills
  • Interviewing 
  • Public Contact and Interpersonal Skills
  • Interpreting Rules and Regulations
  • Listening Skills
