Community Outreach Specialist

We’re looking for a motivated, people-oriented and bilingual professional with exceptional communication skills to take on the role of Community Outreach Specialist. You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team who support the Multicultural Engagement Program, which is part of the Communications and Outreach Division in the City Manager’s Office. This position receives immediate supervision from the Senior Outreach Coordinator but may receive general supervision from other professional or managerial staff in the Communications and Outreach Division. The Essentials

  • Education equivalent to the completion of 12th grade.
  • Bilingual proficiency required in English and in one of the following languages: Spanish or Mandarin.
  • Must have the ability to write, translate, and provide verbal interpretation in English and one of the languages listed above. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California’s Driver’s License

Bonus Points:

  • Additional college coursework in a related field is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a translation and interpretation certificate.

 

What You'll Do:

  • Assist in developing, planning and organizing activities in order to promote and disperse City information about services and programs to residents.
  • Support the fulfillment of translation, interpretation and outreach assignments as needed.
  • Attend community festivals, special events, special team meetings, public meetings and gatherings as appropriate.
  • Assist in the implementation and day-to-day compliance of the forthcoming Language Access and Multicultural Engagement Policy. 
  • Provide bilingual interpretation at designated public meetings and other venues.

Working Conditions:
