Recreation and Parks Internship

GET PAID TO PLAY!  Chico Area Recreation & Park District is accepting applications for both our Recreation & Parks Internships!

Gain professional experience with a special recreation and park district in Northern California. There are two intern positions available One working primarily in Recreation Programming and one in primarily Parks and Facilities Management:

Recreation Internship:
A well rounded opportunity with exposure to Administration, Adult and Youth Sports, Special Events, Mature Adults, Leisure Interest Classes, After School Programs, Aquatics (seasonally), and Camps. Opportunity to work in a culturally diverse area assisting with Community Development including grant partnerships, multi-agency collaborations, food programs and nutrition, budgeting, scheduling and other community support services. Intern projects are mutually agreed upon.

Parks Internship: 
A well rounded opportunity with exposure to parks administration, budgeting, scheduling, hands-on parks and facilities maintenance and operations, special event planning and set-up, grant work, and capital projects. Possible projects include park installations, interpretation guides, Park Bike Rally coordination and/or other Intern projects mutually agreed upon.

 

Ideal Candidate:

Senior year student majoring in Parks Administration, Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, or a related field. Previous paid or volunteer parks experience desired. Must possess strong computer skills and a valid driver’s license. A positive approach to challenge, strong work ethic, and desire to work in community parks and recreation.

Applicants whose experience and training are most closely suited to the needs of CARD will be selected for interviews. Criteria will be based on knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the position.

Required in Internship Application: cover letter indicating your preference of the Recreation or Parks Intern position, resume, district application, and two letters of recommendation. Please include a list of your top (5) goals you would like to accomplish during your internship.

 

Employment Dates: 
Application Deadline— July 15th
Spring
     14-16 weeks Starting 2nd Monday of January
Fall
     14-16 weeks Starting 2nd Monday of September

40 Hours a week will be necessary for completion of Internship hours; however, each position is a paid position at the following rates:
Recreation Intern: 20hrs/wk at $16.00hr
Parks Intern: 28hrs/wk at $16.00hr

Chico, California (population 120,000) is in central Northern California, 90 miles north
of the capital city, Sacramento. The city is home to California State University, Chico
and Bidwell Park—one of the largest municipal parks in the country—and is
surrounded by fruit and nut orchards. CARD facilities include a community center,
recreation center, neighborhood center, field house and one community pool. CARD
