Cal Color Product Development Internship 2024

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:  

Our Product Development Intern will assist in daily research activities and manage a portion of an ongoing California Natural Color product development project, depending on their level of experience. They will have the opportunity to interface with all levels of the company, including Product Development, QA, Production, Supply Chain, and Sales/Marketing and gain valuable hands on experience for future employment or graduate school. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists in providing technical and application support to the sales team. 

Assists in providing technical assistance to customers by performing application experiments for customer specific projects. 

Assists in the development of new products and experimental blends using benchtop and pilot equipment. 

Assists in the analysis and evaluation of new products and experimental blends. 

Performs routine analysis of lab samples utilizing appropriate distillation, titrimetric, colormetric and instrumental methods supporting product development. 

Contributes to general operation and upkeep of the laboratory such as daily cleanings and calibrations of laboratory instruments such as an auto-titrator, refractometer, density meter, ion specific electrodes, spectrophotometer, balances, turbidimeter, and other instruments as required to perform duties. 

Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness. 

Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED: 

Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the school of Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or Engineering; OR have obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from the school of Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, or Engineering. 

Required to work overtime when necessary. 

Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description. 

 

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART: 

Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science. 

Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Skilled in reading, analyzing and interpreting common scientific and technical journals. 

Skilled in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing solid conclusions. 

Excellent written and oral communication skills 

Excellent organization skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple assignments 

 

 

COMPENSATION: 

Hiring Salary Range Posted: $21.50 - $24.00 / hour 

Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. 

In addition to the salary, this position may be eligible for bonuses and incentive plans, as applicable.
