Job Description:
The WellCat Counseling Center Peer Coach Program provides non-clinical one-on-one and peer support group to students. Peer Coaches are responsible for:
· Attending weekly team meeting
· Work individually with clients
· Develop and facilitate peer support group(s)
· Support other WellCat Service Programs during tabling events
· Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Peer Coaches will be assigned to individual and group coaching determined by the needs of the WellCat Counseling Center (WCCC). Coaches will carry an individual case load of 5-8 individual students and could lead a peer support group. Coaches receive training and supervision.
Peer Coaches provide mentoring students on a variety of areas, including:
- Social pressures, adaptation, separation
- Academic concerns and skills
- Accessing student resources including healthcare, housing, food
- Reinforcing self-esteem and self-advocacy skills
- Balancing academic and social demands
- Coping with isolation/adjusting in the pandemic
- Navigating current social issues/social justice/inequities
Provide connection, emotional support, and coaching on holistic wellness activities such as:
- Creative Writing/Journaling
- Exercise
- Mindfulness
- Art/crafts
Expected Workload:
This position requires 15-20 hours per week.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population.
- Ability to facilitate group meetings and effectively coach students.
- Ability to continuously seek improvements to support the goals and overall mission of the program.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with professional standards.
- Dependable and reliable (i.e. completing tasks in a timely manner)
Qualifications:
Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be currently enrolled for full time. Students must be of legal status to work in California.
Compensation:
Unpaid. Course credit only. Students applying for course credit hours MUST be requested and approved prior to the beginning of the internship. No request will be considered after the second week of school. Students are responsible to contact their Department Internship Coordinator/Professor to see if the Counseling Center is an eligible internship site.
Selection Procedure:
The selection committee is comprised of the WellCat Counseling Center staff. Selection will be based on the following materials provided by the candidate, as well as an interview. Candidates should submit the following:

- The experience and qualifications that prepared you for the position that you’re applying for.
- Your professional aspirations and how you hope an internship with WellCat Counseling Center would prepare you.
- A minimum of three current growth edges that you hope are addressed through this internship.
