Great Valley Seed Co. is a native seed producer focused on developing and distributing native plant materials throughout California. For the right candidate, we are offering the opportunity to grow with us in an exciting, dynamic environment.
GVS. has an immediate opening for a Field Operations Manager based out of our Los Banos, California facility. We are seeking a motivated, self-starter with the right mix of experience to support our native seed farming operations.
The focus of this position will be to oversee all production operations directly managing growing, harvest & seed conditioning departments. This position will be responsible for overall production strategy and production implementation. This position will report directly to the general manager with support from the restoration biologist.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all farm activities with the operations team
- Support crop planning, budget & yield forecasting
- Collaborate with biology, crop protection and agronomy team(s)
- Coordinate site prep, irrigation schedules & weed management
- Implement planting, growing & harvest activities
- Provide quality control throughout the entire production cycle
- Perform weekly field scouting, and work with biology/agronomy team to complete crop reports
- Oversee general housekeeping and sanitation protocol on seeds and crops
- Manage production labor relative to seasonal demand
- Coordinate native seed harvest schedules
- Troubleshoot seed processing equipment and field implements
- Direct seed cleaning department
- Manage facilities, storage, and equipment repairs
- Manage, coach, train and develop operations staff
- Ensures that Safety and Compliance are meeting company and legal requirements

- Ability to work outdoors as well as indoors
- Requires valid CA license to drive company vehicles
- Ability to operate farm machinery and seed cleaning equipment
- Flexibility in work schedule to meet seasonal demands
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays as required by operational needs
Desired Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Agriculture or Plant Sciences
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Field production background, native seed a plus
- Warehouse management is desirable
- Mechanical aptitude
- Basic knowledge of agricultural industry
- Greenhouse experience a plus
- Proficient in Google cloud platform or compatible systems
- Basic understanding of pest control applications
