TV Entertainment Research & Insights Internships – Academic Year (Virtual)

Opportunities listed will either be in-person based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs. Job Description


2023 – 2024 Academic Year Internship Program: 
  • Applications Close: June 9, 2023, at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – don't delay! 
  • Program Dates: September 18, 2023 – April 19, 2024 
  • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

The Entertainment Group develops and schedules the network’s primetime, late-night, and daytime entertainment programming, including USA, SYFY, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, and Universal Kids. NBC’s quality programs and balanced line-up have earned the network critical acclaim, numerous awards and ratings success, including most recently winning the traditional September-to-May season in primetime’s key demo, marking the network’s third win in four years. NBC has earned more Emmy Awards than any network in television history. 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 
  • Entertainment Consumer Insights: The Content & Consumer Insights department is responsible for qualitative, primary research and audience insights for the Entertainment Networks of NBC, USA, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SyFy & Universal Kids. Interns will work directly with our analysts on analyzing social media commentary using social listening tools to gauge audience feedback on TV programs. They will contribute to a weekly Trends report compiling the latest social & digital trends. There will be an opportunity to learn about different surveys, questionnaires, and research methodologies and their application to the business objectives of this company. The Content & Consumer Insights department works together with a variety of departments (including: Development, Scripted series, Alternative, Lifestyle Docu-series, Marketing, and Scheduling). 
  • E! News Digital and Social Analytics: This intern will learn and use multiple analytics tools to help E! News grow its digital and social platforms – Eonline.com, E! News App, and E! Social Handles (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok). They will also work closely with the editorial and social teams to generate insights and guide the E! News digital strategy while maintaining a pulse on the quickly developing news cycle within the entertainment pop news landscape. The E! News digital and social analytics internship is perfect for numbers-orientated and analytical minded students with career interests in the media industry and a desire to learn digital analytics  
  • Entertainment Digital Research: This intern will work closely with researchers across the digital and linear (cross-platform) worlds and will have a unique perspective as to how much the television landscape has changed and how quickly that change continues. Interns will be be trained on data forecasting methodologies and will assist in the forecasting process. 
  • Entertainment Programming Research: This intern will have the opportunity to generate and distribute reports and analyze viewership across age, gender, and countless other demographics, using both television ratings and digital data. The role primarily focuses on NBC Broadcast Network and its competitors, but there is opportunity to work with cable and streaming programming. The intern will also work closely with researchers across the linear and digital (cross-platform) worlds and will have a unique perspective as to how much the television landscape has changed and how quickly that change continues.   
  • Syndication Research: NBC Universal Syndication Studios produces and distributes such shows as Access Hollywood and The Kelly Clarkson Show, and the research department is responsible for informing producers and executives about their performance in the ratings and on streaming platforms. This intern will distribute daily, weekly and monthly data reports using digital metrics and Nielsen ratings to track performance.  


Qualifications


Basic Requirements: 
  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program. 
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal. 
  • Must be working virtually from a location within the United States during all hours worked. 

Desired Characteristics: 
  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 
  • Passion for TV - past, present and future 
  • Affinity for numbers / large data sets 
  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information 
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools especially Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau are a plus 
  • Excellent communication, proofreading skills and attention to detail
   
The hourly rate for student interns is $17.00.
