NHC San Francisco AmeriCorps Member - NHC Public Health Leadership Corps
The National Health Corps (NHC) is a public health-focused AmeriCorps National Service program that aims to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits, and services, while developing tomorrow's compassionate health leaders. NHC members receive a living allowance* and other benefits.
NHC members commit to a 46-week, 1700-hour service term. National Health Corps has program locations across the United States. Learn more about NHC at nationalhealthcorps.org.
The NHC San Francisco program is seeking members to serve with the following clinics and organizations (hereafter referred to as Host Sites):
- Curry Senior Center****
- HealthRIGHT 360**
- San Francisco Department of Public Health – Dental Services and Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health**
- San Francisco Health Network Food Pharmacy – Food As Medicine Collaborative**
- San Francisco Department of Public Health – Population Health Management**
- San Francisco Department of Public Health – Value-Based Care Team**
Responsibilities:
NHC Americorps Members may have a variety of responsibilities at their Host Sites which include:
- Participating in COVID-19 vaccine distribution, case investigation, contact tracing, and client education
- Developing and delivering community health intervention workshops
- Helping older adults use technology to improve their health
- Connect new and existing patients to Medicated Assisted Treatment providers for people with opioid and prescription drug overuse disorders.
- Distributing fresh produce and providing nutrition education to health center patients
- Outreach and screening of potential participants, supporting on-site preventive and urgent health care, providing connections to primary care.
NHC Americorps Members, in addition to the above Host Site responsibilities, will:
- Partake in monthly/semi-monthly training and professional development sessions around public health knowledge and practice skills.
- Collect data and assess quality of services provided to patients/clients to improve services throughout and beyond their service term.
- Participate in professional development committees addressing communications, teambuilding, recruitment, service, and training at NHC.
- Contribute to program-wide communications efforts by writing blogs/creating vlogs and sharing their experiences through NHC social media.
- Volunteer with local organizations to serve the community outside of Host Site responsibilities.

Requirements:
Interested applicants must meet the following:
- Be at least 18+ years old at the start of their Service Term.
- Have obtained a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Be a U.S. national or Lawful Permanent Resident.
- Cannot have completed 4+ prior Americorps Service Terms.

*Living Allowance varies by Program Location.
**Proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin is highly desired, but not required.
***Full Professional Proficiency or Bilingual Proficiency in Spanish is required.
**** Conversational, Full Proficiency or Bilingual Proficiency in Cantonese is highly desired.
Position Start Date:
August 29th, 2023. Some roles must start before August 14th, 2023.
