INTERN II - PLANNING INTERN

**FIRST APPLICATION REVIEW ON NOVEMBER 28TH**

  • This is an IN-PERSON internship on-site in Benicia, CA; remote work is NOT an option.
  • This position is part-time, with no benefits, and will average approx. 15-20 hours per week.
  • We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible (December 2022); this is not for a summer internship.

Definition

The Community Development Department’s core function is to ensure a quality commercial and residential environment, healthy neighborhoods, and a strong economic base that aligns with community objectives. The city is looking for an intern who will assist the Planning Division on a variety of assignments to support current development and long-range planning projects. The successful candidate should be customer service oriented, friendly, professional, an outstanding multi-tasker, excellent communicator, organized and an independent worker. 

Distinguishing Characteristics

This classification is designed to assist individuals in gaining experience in a job area or in exploring career opportunities. This is a part time classification, and no regular positions may be allocated to this classification. Incumbents in this classification may not work more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority. 

Representative Duties / Qualifications

The following duties are typical of those performed by incumbents in this class. However, assignments may vary greatly, and duties will vary according to assignment:

  • Interacts with members of the public;
  • Researches requests for information;
  • Learns interview, research, investigation, counseling, and other techniques utilized in job assignments;
  • Prepares and writes reports;
  • Makes arithmetic calculations;
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations serving the public.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Education:  Applicants must be in the process of earning a college degree or have graduated with a degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Public Policy, or related field.

Experience: None required


LICENSE AND/OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 
This class includes administrative or clerical positions requiring light physical effort, which may include frequent lifting of up to ten pounds and occasional lifting of up to twenty-five pounds. Ability to place or retrieve items at below waist level may be required. Considerable moving about may be involved.
