Data Curator

KBR
KBR is seeking a Data Curator to provide data acquisition, curation, and system operations support. The incumbent will support the team with data submissions, curation, metadata standardization, and will work with the user community and collaborators (within NASA, academia, and industry) for User Experience enhancements. They will provide support to the space biology and human research program user community on metadata and dataset inquiries.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·      Curation of space bioscience phenotypic datasets generated by principal investigators.
·      Collect, analyze, and interpret information from peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or through direct submissions by applying specific scientific content knowledge. Curate data into the required format, verify for accuracy.
·      Review complex, scientific submissions to the database for quality and relevancy; Curate information in the required formats. Review, research and resolve quality control reports findings. Generate data quality assessment reports.
·      Testing of the data and website to maintain quality. Research and ensure resolution of user inquiries such as content and website issues.
·      Modify and execute data processing, analysis, publication, and federation pipelines
·      Field inquiries from the data system user community
·      Develop documentation and tutorials regarding effective use of the database for user community.
·      Maintain quality control and integrity of databases and query tools for data mining as part of a collaborative team based on technical content expertise in a scientific field, such as molecular biology.
 
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelors with 4+ years of experience in biology, biostatistics, biochemistry, computational biology, bioengineering or related fields or Master's with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
 
Required Skills/Training:
·      Familiarity with biocuration – populating, organizing, formatting metadata and data files for phenotypic datasets.
·      Familiarity with database organization (SQL, MongoDB).
·      Familiarity with the Linux command line environment.
·      Some programming experience in scripting languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl).
·      Familiarity with cellular regulatory mechanisms and biostatistical concepts.
·      Experience with data management and analysis.
·      Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
·      Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training: 
·      Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
·      Strong attention to detail.
·      Additional programing and web languages (ORACLE/SQL, PERL, C++, Python, XML, PHP, R, Matlab, or other languages).
·      Ability to work independently with minimal guidance while consistently exercising good judgment.
