Legal/Finance Internship (Remote)

SUMMARY
NextGen America is currently seeking a Legal and Finance Intern to support these administrative functions of the organization. The finance and legal departments keep the organization compliant with a variety of nonprofit tax regulations, campaign finance laws, and reporting requirements. This internship will provide hands-on experience with administrative functions such as legal research, contract review and administration, accounting, financial reporting and research. 

This internship is not limited to current students or recent graduates. We also invite and encourage experienced professionals who may be looking for a career change to apply. 
 
This position will be part-time with an expected commitment of 25 hours per week and last for roughly 12 weeks.

  • This position will also offer first-hand experience in multiple fields of law including contracts, intellectual property, nonprofit and tax law, and campaign finance and political law. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal:
  • Assist with core day-to-day activities of the legal team.
  • Provide research to the legal team and NextGen staff on issues related to federal and state campaign finance law, voting rights, lobbying law, IRS regulations, corporate compliance, and other issues related to corporate and non-profit law.
  • Review and revise NextGen’s public communications (including broadcast, digital, and print advertisements) to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Assist with the filing of campaign finance and other compliance reports.
  • Assist in the drafting, review, organization and maintenance of contracts with consultants, contractors, and vendors, and related documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Finance:
  • Assist with core day-to-day activities of the Finance team
  • Assist in analyzing the organization's financial data to produce reports
  • Assist with operational processes including check requests, processing invoices, tracking headcount, updating etc.
  • Data entry and maintenance of databases
  • Perform administrative support and duties as needed

BONUS POINTS FOR
  • Any legal education or experience such as at least 1 semester of law school or working on or having received a paralegal certificate

COMPENSATION: 
NextGen America Interns are part-time, temporary employees with a set pay rate of $20/hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
