Language, Speech, and Hearing Therapist

$4K SIGNING BONUS ($2K at end of year 1 & year 2)


ACCEPTING CLINICAL FELLOWSHIPS


ANNUAL SALARY $60,879 to $118,577 depending on degrees & experience, plus benefits up to $666.23/mo for single health and up to $1,041.23 for 2-party/family (including medical, dental, life insurance, vision, TSA options)



Required Credential/License:


Possess or qualify for a valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services credential or California Speech-Language Pathologist license.

For applicants who have not yet obtained their credential or license, please indicate current progress in program or toward license.

Out-of-state candidates may qualify for a California speech license via current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence or current license issued by another state. Full list of options here:




Job Description:




DEFINITION

Under the supervision of an Area Coordinator, plans and provides language, speech, and hearing services to school districts in Sacramento County. Services may include consultation and direct therapy with students having mild to severe language disabilities as well as working with school staff, families, and related personnel. In the Infant Program the Language, Speech and Hearing Therapist provides case management services, Duties may vary according to assignment.

Area Coordinator, Special Education



SUPERVISION OVER

Trains and assigns the work of instructional support staff and provides input into performance evaluation process.
 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individualized Education Program Process

Conducts assessment/evaluation of student abilities and needs; initiates, notifies, and conducts IEP process for non-duplicated language, speech, and hearing students; attends and serves as a member of the IEP team to determine eligibility of student for program; assists in the development of IEP instructional goals/objectives and language, speech, and hearing goals while adhere to IEP legal and time guidelines; reassesses/evaluates student progress and submits reports in a timely manner to coincide with IEP review meetings.
 


Instruction

Establishes appropriate instructional/learning environment for the student; develops a variety of instructional activities to meet the student's individual language, speech, and hearing goals/objectives which are based upon the IEP -- these goals may be implemented in the classroom, home, or community; processes teacher referrals, conducts screening programs, and/or in-depth language, speech, and hearing assessments to identify pupils; provides direct group or individual therapy and maintains therapy records; provides consultation services to staff and parents for intervention strategies to meet language, speech, and hearing IEP goals; prepares progress reports for individual students including prognosis and recommendation for continued language, speech, and hearing services.
 


Interpersonal Relations/Communications

Maintains written/oral communication with parents, staff, and other district personnel; serves as a resource/liaison with other community agencies and services; attends various school related meetings; establishes rapport with students receiving therapy/instruction; implements behavior modification skills; assesses and analyzes student's overall communication performance to determine the cause of deficiencies.
 


Training/Consultation

Provides parent education related to student needs; provides training and consultation with teachers and paraprofessionals regarding language, speech, and hearing needs of individual students; provides inservice training/consultation to staff and school district personnel; participates in professional development activities.
 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience

Possession of any valid California credential authorizing service as a language, speech, and hearing therapist.
 
Applicants who do not possess the credential but have completed coursework in Language, Speech and Hearing Pathology may be considered for the position if willing to secure and serve under a Commission on Teacher Credentialing waiver while working toward the Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential.
 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of language, speech, and hearing services with particular emphasis on the educational and psychological processes of teaching students with mild to severe language disabilities; knowledge of behavioral management systems and current trends in educational methods for teaching language, speech, and hearing disabled students; principles and methods of recognizing, testing, and evaluating language, speech, and hearing disabled students; knowledge of non-verbal communication techniques and system, e.g., sign language, communication boards, computers, tactile boards; knowledge of neuromuscular disabilities as related to communication and feeding.
 


Other Characteristics

Possession of a valid California driver's license and/or be able to provide own transportation in conduct of work assignments with mileage reimbursed.
