Policy & Data Summer Associate

Purpose of the Role

The Data and Policy Summer Associates will assist the Executive Director in identifying best-in-class programs and initiatives that help support the mission of the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. The Associates will collaborate with the MBK Alliance team to research and analyze policy initiatives for their impact on boys and young men of color and the community leaders that support them. The Associate will report to the Executive Director, MBK Alliance and will be available for 20hrs/week for 6 weeks.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Background research on a new policy priority currently in development;
  • Support the development of the organization’s mid-year report;
  • Exploration of equity data, community data, enrollment trends; and
  • Assist with survey presentation and reports.

Key Deliverables / Outcomes

  • Briefings on focus areas: Infrastructure policies, regulations and data (apprenticeships), high school redesign, violence reduction, early childhood, college recruitment and retention.
  • Analysis of existing federal funding and identification of potential partnership opportunities for MBK Alliance
  • Listing of potential apprenticeship partners in the areas of construction & the trades, renewable energy, land management, information technology, broadband, and more
  • Research brief identifying the top performing school districts in the MBK Network
  • Research brief identifying the best violence reduction efforts in the country and the feasibility of scaling them to all participating high schools in the MBK Network

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to think through, manage and communicate many details, often on tight timelines;
  • Strong verbal and written presentation and communication skills, particularly with diverse audiences;
  • Policy research experience;
  • Intermediate or advanced skill with Google Suite (preferred);
  • Data visualization and design experience (preferred);
  • Working knowledge and/or experience working in a public service or non-profit setting (preferred).
  • Undergraduate (Juniors/Seniors) or Graduate students pursuing studies in public policy or related field
