Sports Digital Content Writer/Editor

POSITION PURPOSE:
We’re looking for a versatile and driven Content Contributor to write, shoot, edit and post sports news events, features and documentaries. Our ideal candidate will bring energy and focus in producing compelling digital sports coverage for audiences in Sacramento and surrounding areas. This is a unique position that requires extreme flexibility, including work on weekends, evenings, etc. In addition, the position requires the flexibility and dependability to work additional hours during breaking news and other big sporting events.
This is a hybrid on-site/remote role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Sacramento office location. In order to work on Company premises, or with clients / members of the public at other locations, Bonneville employees must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or evidence of a negative COVID-19 test within the previous seven days.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Create unique, engaging and shareable sports content consistent with the KHTK Sports 1140 brand for use on digital platforms (website, app, social)
  • Create content covering all of the region’s sports teams, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc., with a heavy emphasis on NFL. 
  • Receive writing assignments from Digital Sports Editor and complete projects on deadline
  • Working alongside on-air talent to expand on-air commentary for use on digital products
  • Respond to breaking news promptly with compelling content to join trending conversations
  • Responsible to assist in making sure that website and social pages are continually fresh from both a content and graphical perspective.
  • Offer ideas, suggestions and other concepts for the station’s digital platforms that are innovative and creative.
  • Consistently work hours required. Work more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Exceptional sports knowledge, including strong knowledge of the Sacramento sports scene
  • Ability to generate highly creative, compelling sports programming for multi-platform distribution
  • Strong understanding of the current digital and social media landscape, including creating content for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms, best practices, success metrics and emerging platforms
  • Prior experience updating and maintaining a brand, team or other professional social media account
  • Design, photo and video editing skills
  • Experience with Adobe Creative / Microsoft Office
  • Experience with WordPress preferred
  • Expertise using social media platforms to curate and promote news content
  • Ability to write clear, concise, conversational and accurate copy
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining professional digital video and audio equipment preferred
  • Ability to produce content efficiently and concisely under deadline pressure and to manage stress effectively
  • Able to work independently with little supervision. Requires a track record of dependability and evidence of being a self-starter.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • College degree in digital content/development, journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Two (2) years’ digital production experience or equivalent preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.

  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to consistently work hours required. Position requires extreme flexibility; able to work evenings, weekends, odd hours, etc. to ensure that digital properties are continually updated and fresh. Flexibility to work during breaking news and other big news events required. Willing to update content remotely from home and elsewhere as needed

  • Maintain confidentiality by not discussing internal matters, company strategies, client’s proprietary information, personnel matters, wage and salary information or any sensitive information with clients, competitors, listeners, the media or inappropriately with co-workers, and by not distributing our proprietary research or other information to our competitors
