Community Fruit Gleaning Internship

The Community Fruit Gleaning internship is for those who desire to learn how to harvest fruit safely and how to plan harvest events. This internship takes place in the office (your home office), at our farm and in the community. Successful students will be able to plan small harvest events and lead volunteers on their own during this internship. 

Interns will:
  • Learn how to harvest fruit safely
  • How to manage the safety of a group 
  • How to ensure safety of the property being harvested
  • How to ensure safety of the food being transported
  • Harvest event planning
  • Calling homeowners
  • Reaching out to volunteers
  • Scheduling donation delivery to CSUS food pantry or other local food locker
  • Record keeping and data entry
  • Help coordinate and participate in large harvest (100+ person) events

Interns will receive:
  • On-going support from Soil Born Staff 
  • Opportunities to participate in classes, workshops, and events at Soil Born Farms
  • A friendly, supportive internship environment
  • Support and assistance pursuing internship goals

Requirements:
  • Desire to work with the community on the farm and in the community
  • Saturday availability
  • Fully vaccinated, including boosters when applicable

This opportunity is a great fit for students who want to work with the community in education, outdoor education, farms, gardens, or environmentalism, and those who have a desire to teach others about environmental stewardship, especially in an urban setting, and for those that hope for community transformation through changes in our local food systems.
