Neonatal Puppy Kennel Technician

At Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), our mission starts with the breeding and care of puppies who are on a journey to potentially become guide dogs for the blind or visually impaired. As a Neonatal Puppy Kennel Technician at our San Rafael campus, you’ll have the crucial role of keeping them (and their mothers) healthy. It requires teamwork, attention to detail, and a lot of physical activity. We’re a more complex, state of the art facility than you might have experienced, but the rewards of working with our dogs are endless. What you’ll do:
  • Feeding, bathing, medicating, and maintaining a clean kennel environment
  • Providing specialized care for newborn puppies, whelping mothers, and our breeding colony
  • Handling data entry and duties related to socialization and enrichment to support the success of our dogs

The qualifications you’ll need:
  • Desire for knowledge
  • Flexibility
  • Experience caring for dogs in a kennel, veterinary or training environment preferred
  • Ability to follow treatment plans and administer medications
  • Knowledge of kennel procedures and strict disease control
  • Physical stamina to be on your feet bending, lifting, scooping, and hosing
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays
