POSITION: Northeast Information Center (NEIC) Student Intern 

STATUS: Part-Time / Non-Benefitted / Hourly / Non-Exempt 

COMPENSATION: $16.90 - $17.10 per hour

DEPARTMENT: Northeast Information Center (NEIC)

LOCATION:1074 East Ave., Suite F, Chico, CA 95926, or CSU, Chico (BSS Building)

RESIDENCY: Candidate must be a California resident. Chico State Enterprises is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e., H-1B Visas).

The Northeast Information Center (NEIC) serves as a regional repository for archaeological site data, supporting the preservation and management of cultural resources throughout California’s northeastern region. NEIC collaborates with state and federal agencies, private firms, and academic researchers to ensure archaeological information is accurately documented, maintained, and made accessible for public and professional use.

The NEIC is pleased to announce internship openings for Summer 2026.These internships offer valuable experience for students interested in archaeology, cultural resource management, GIS, heritage preservation, or related fields.

  • Term: Summer 2026 (June-August)
  • Hours: 135 total hours over 10 weeks (approximately 13.5 hours/week)
  • Credit: Eligible for 3 internship units (with departmental approval for Chico State students only)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Interns will gain hands-on professional experience and directly contribute to NEIC’s mission. Duties include:

  • Processing incoming archaeological site records and survey reports.
  • Assisting with updates and tracking of archaeological sites and surveys.
  • Supporting data entry, organization, and quality control within NEIC’s database.
  • Working with NEIC’s GIS platform to update spatial data.
  • Collaborating with NEIC staff to ensure accurate and accessible cultural resource documentation.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: 

Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A major or minor in Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management (CRM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), History, or related field.
  • The ability to work independently and meet weekly hour expectations.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be a student at CSU, Chico, enrolled in a minimum of 4 units (graduate) or 6 units for (undergraduate) during the Fall and Spring semesters.
