Industrial Engineering Intern

DEPARTMENT: 

Reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, in our Production Operations Department in Davis, CA 

POSITION PURPOSE:   

The Industrial Engineering College Intern will support the Production Operations team by assisting with process improvement initiatives, data collection and analysis, and lean manufacturing projects. This internship provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, allowing the intern to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges while learning from experienced professionals. 

POSITION DUTIES  

  • Create process mapping, conduct time studies, and workflow analysis to identify opportunities for improvement.  
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, waste reduction, and continuous improvement projects.  
  • Collect and analyze production data to support decision-making and process optimization.  
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with engineers, technicians, and production staff.  
  • Develop and update work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.  
  • Observe and learn about manufacturing operations, safety practices, and quality standards. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Production Operations team. 
  • Other duties, as required. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:    

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or a related field.  
  • Strong interest in manufacturing, process improvement, and lean methodologies.  
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis and process mapping (coursework or project experience preferred).  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with CAD or data visualization tools is a plus. 
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, listen and speak for long periods of time. 
  • Manual dexterity using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, and lift. 
  • Wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment as needed. 
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • Frequent use of PC.
