Job Summary

Woodland Solutions Group is seekingfull-time Road Inventory Technician Interns pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in GIS, Forestry or other adjacent fields. The candidate must have effective communication and writing skills; be detail-oriented, organized, and reliable; and demonstrate a strong desire to learn. This internship opportunity includes on the job training, exposure to land management professionals, utilization of industry standard software such as ESRI field maps.

Primary Duties and Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with ESRI data collection and processing platforms (ArcGIS Online, ESRI Field Maps)
    • Line (track) and point data collection
    • Filtering, sorting and organizing tabular data
    • Digitizing
    • Accurately portray field conditions through data collection and editing
    • Other GIS functions, such as snapping
  • Database experience, understanding databases, fields, domains
    • Attribution of features
    • Attention to data accuracy, data integrity and detail
  • Experience navigating in remote forested areas on rural roads
    • Experience driving a 4x4 vehicle on rural forest roads 
    • Experience reading, interpreting and navigating from a map in the field
  • Dedication to safety
    • Knowledge of safe forest navigation practices
    • Experience and ability to hike in steep, rugged terrain
    • Wildfire danger awareness 

Desired Academic and Professional Skills

  • Fluid mechanics, forest hydrology, geomorphology, geology and geo-mechanics, and forest engineering 
  • Forest and rural road inventory and management experience

Duration/Schedule 

Interns will be expected to work 40 hours a week for 10-12 weeks, from May through August. 

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly wage
  • If relocating, $500/month housing stipend provided

  • N/A. Field work in various sites in California
