
Community Outreach Advocate
This position is located in the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health Division, Substance Use Disorders Services Unit and provides community outreach advocacy services, presents informational sessions, performs prevention, and outreach for at-risk populations; prepares, researches, and presents health system materials; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge to evaluate behavioral health problems, make recommendations based on observations, and be able to act quickly and calmly in crisis and/or emergency situations.
JOB DUTIES
- Advises contacts and clients of community resources available for resolution of behavioral health problems; acts as an advocate for individuals to help them understand their rights and advocate for their expressed wants.
- Coordinates and facilitates youth activities and awareness programs; provides safe learning environment for adolescents; drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention programs.
- Works with sub-contractors, consultants and outside community members on various program issues and functions.
- Transports or accompanies clients to appointments for service or interviews.
- May facilitate alcohol and drug group sessions and other counseling activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIOONS
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of clerical or technical experience in Behavioral Health, Public Health, or Social Services environment.
EDUCATION:
Equivalent to an Associates degree or 60 units from an accredited college or university in Behavioral Health, Health Education, Social Work, Social Services, Drug and Alcohol or addiction counseling or related field.
